Stan serves as Associate Vice President of Government Affairs and Director of Federal Relations for The Ohio State University. Based in Washington, D.C., he oversees the university’s Washington office and represents Ohio State in advocacy before federal departments and agencies and the U.S. Congress. In this role, he advances the university’s federal priorities and strengthens relationships with policymakers and their staff.
Stan joined Ohio State in 2017 and brings more than 30 years of experience working in Washington, D.C. Before joining the university, he spent over two decades in the private sector as a government relations executive, founding and leading multiple D.C.-based lobbying firms that represented non-profit associations, businesses, and research institutions before Congress and the Executive Branch. His career also includes 13 years on Capitol Hill, where he served as Appropriations Director and policy advisor to then Senator Mike DeWine (OH), professional staff on the House Appropriations Committee, legislative advisor to the Speaker-elect, and legislative staff for two members of Congress.
In addition to his university role, Stan is an active leader in national higher education advocacy. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Council on Governmental Affairs (CGA), the primary advocacy body for leading public research institutions, where he chairs the Appropriations Task Force and was the past chair of the Professional Development Ad Hoc Task Force. Stan also serves on the Board of Directors of The Science Coalition, a nonpartisan organization of over 50 leading research universities dedicated to sustaining federal investment in fundamental scientific research. Additionally, he is a former Steering Committee member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) Council on Federal Relations (CFR), representing the top research universities in North America.
A Powell, Ohio native, Stan received his B.A. in Political Science from The Ohio State University. He resides in Falls Church, VA with his wife of more than 30 years and is the proud father of two sons.
